Pierce/Martin, 1610 Fir Street S, (NR)

This stone English manor house designed by Clarence Smith, with its elements of Queen Anne style of architecture, is a unique residence in Salem. Built for Edgar and Ursula Pierce at a cost of $17,000, the family lived in the house from 1932 to 1935 and from 1940 to 1942. From 1935 to 1938 the house was rented to Governor and Mrs. Charles Martin. Later residents of the house were Alfred and Dorothy Burgoyne, Norman and Florence "Dolly" Merrill, and Oregon Secretary of State Clay and Elizabeth Myers. See 1978 photograph.
